Are there any circumstances in which lenses should not be worn?

Lenses should not be worn when the wearer is experiencing illness, pain in the eyes or when the eyes are irritated or red-shot. It can also be appropriate to wear lenses in unagreeable environments for example dusty rooms, bakeries or building sites and the like. When there is a risk that the eyes can be affected by strong chemicals it is also inappropriate to wear lenses.
